Meet the instructorS

Frances K. Harper

Frances K. Harper, PhD, is an associate professor of STEM Education at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Her research agenda focuses on the conditions across both formal and informal education that promote educational equity in STEM disciplines, particularly in PreK-9 mathematics education and early (PreK-2) computing education. As a critical community-engaged scholar, she does research in partnership with key stakeholders in STEM education, namely, teachers, students, families, and community members. Her scholarship concentrates on two domains: (1) how school-family-community partnerships lay the groundwork for equity-driven STEM education; and (2) how children and youth negotiate learning and identity development in equity-driven STEM education.

Margaret Caspe

Margaret Caspe, PhD, is the NAFSCE's Senior Research Consultant. She co-leads the Pre-Service Family Engagement Consortium which is a collaborative of national partners and state and higher education teams dedicated to supporting educator preparation in family engagement. Over the past 20 years, she has studied how partnerships among families, schools, and communities influence children’s development in a variety of areas, including language and literacy, and bilingualism, as well as science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). As an advisory member of various national collaboratives, including the Family Math Roadmap Project, she provides insights on the intersection of research, practice, and policy to promote innovative family engagement strategies.

Meet the instructorS

Holly Kreider

Holly Kreider, Ed.D., directs NAFSCE’s Center for Family Math, leading efforts to build a nation-wide family math movement. Strategic activities include family math research, practice, field building, and communications. Previously, Holly led family engagement investments at the Heising-Simons Foundation, as well as investments in local community empowerment, organizational effectiveness, and democracy reform. Her early career focused on family engagement research, evaluation, and practice at the Harvard Family Research Project and Raising A Reader. She has authored/edited over 50 articles and books on family engagement. She holds an Ed.D from Harvard Graduate School of Education.
